“I was not enjoying coaching”

Kabir Khan has resigned as Afghanistan’s head coach due to the fact that the job has had a negative impact on his family life.

Khan, who revealed that he wanted to quit after the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March, noted that having to travel constantly has affected his family life.

“I have resigned from the coach’s post,” Kabir told AFP. “The simple reason is that my family was suffering from my being away on tours and I was not enjoying coaching. I had informed them [Afghanistan Cricket Board] a month ago but we reached the agreement a few days back and they accepted my stance.”

During Khan’s tenure as head coach, which started in December 2011, Afghanistan enjoyed a lot of success as they went from being in the lowest division of the World Cricket League to gaining ODI status in 2009. They also made their World Twenty20 debut in 2010 and will make their maiden appearance in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup next year.

Khan added that the national team won’t be affected by his absence during the World Cup.

“I think qualifying for the World Cup was more important than playing it so I don’t think my not being there will affect the performance,” he said.
