New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori will play for Northern Districts in the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) tournament in India.

Vettori will represent his New Zealand county side since the Jamaica Tallawahs, which was the team he was playing for in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL), was eliminated in the semi-finals when they lost by 10 wickets to the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Vettori has been battling numerous injuries over the past year and as a result, he told New Zealand Cricket (NZC) not to give him a central contract for the 2014-15 season.

The 35-year-old last represented New Zealand in their Champions Trophy match against England in June 2013. Vettori has not played a Test match in over two years and it has been nearly two years since he played his last Twenty20 International as well.

But, the New Zealand national selectors will be closely monitoring how Vettori performs in the CLT20 since they are eager to get him back into the national team. However, despite his absence, New Zealand have been doing brilliantly as they recently beat India and the West Indies.

It has also been reported that all-rounder Corey Anderson, who holds the record for the fastest ODI century in history, has chosen to represent the Mumbai Indians instead of the Northern Districts.

But, even though Anderson will be playing for his Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Northern Districts still boast a number of former and current New Zealand players such as Scott Styris, Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, BJ Watling and Daniel Flynn.
