England’s bowling attack continued to chip away at India to stay in complete control at the end of the third day of the third Test in Southampton.
However, India batsman Ajinkya Rahane and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni deserve some credit as they counter-attacked with valiant half-centuries.
Starting out the day on 25/1, India opener Murali Vijay and batsman Cheteshwar Pujara converted their eight-run partnership into a 39-run partnership before Pujara was caught behind off the bowling of Stuart Broad for 24.
Vijay went on to score 35 runs before he chopped the ball onto his stumps off the bowling of Broad.
Like Vijay, Virat Kohli also got off to a good start, but he threw it all away when he was caught by England captain Alastair Cook at first slip off the bowling of James Anderson for 39.
Rahane and Rohit Sharma stabilised the innings with a 74-run partnership, during which Rahane brought up his half-century, before Sharma was caught by Broad at mid-off off the bowling of Moeen Ali for 28.
Rahane ended up making 54 off 113 balls, which included five boundaries, before he gifted his wicket to Ali by bottom-edging a half-tracker straight down the throat of Sean Terry, who was the substitute fielder, at mid-on.

Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja steered the innings back in the right direction with a 58-run partnership before Jadeja was given out lbw off the bowling of Andrson.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar mustered 19 runs before he was brilliantly caught by Gary Ballance at third slip off the bowling of Broad.
Dhoni and Mohammed Shami amassed an unbeaten 10-run partnership, during which Dhoni registered his half-century, before stumps was called.
Dhoni finished on 50 off 103 balls, which included five boundaries and one six, while Shami remained undefeated on four off nine deliveries, which included one boundary.
Broad and Anderson picked up three wickets apiece, while Ali chipped in with two.
