Ex-England captain Andrew Strauss has apologised after calling his former team-mate Kevin Pietersen a c**t on live television.
Strauss was heard saying the profanity at the back of Sky’s commentary box during the Lord’s Bicentenary match, in which Pietersen was representing the Rest of the World side.
“I apologise unreservedly, particularly to Kevin Pietersen,” Strauss said. “I am mortified and profusely sorry.”
Speaking about the incident, former England skipper Michael Atherton, who was also commentating for Sky, said: “I think that’s covered it let’s move on.”
Sky TV were also forced to apologise for Strauss’ language.
“Earlier comments were made during a break of play which were heard overseas,” Sky TV said via their Twitter account. “We apologise for the language used.”
Strauss’ comments have caused an uproar amongst the cricketing community and it was no surprise to see Piers Morgan coming to Pietersen’s defence.
“If Strauss story is true then he’ll have to be fired, surely? Or is a commentator calling @KP24 a ‘c**t’ on air acceptable @SkyCricket?,” Morgan tweeted.
