“It’s probably the one thing on my CV that’s missing and that I would love to tick off”

South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has announced that “it would be nice if I could end my international career with a World Cup victory”.

Kallis will get a shot to add a “World Cup victory” to his “CV” just a month after he finishes representing the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL).

“It would be nice if I could end my international career with a World Cup victory and be part of a World Cup-winning side,” he said. “It would be something I certainly would cherish and it’s probably the one thing on my CV that’s missing and that I would love to tick off.”

Kallis retired from Test cricket in December and has often been referred to as the greatest all-rounder the game has ever seen. However, he doesn’t like to get himself involved in these types of debates.

“I never have and I don’t think I ever will,” he said. “It’s a game I’ve played because I’ve really enjoyed it and I’ve looked forward to contributing with bat and ball. It’s obviously nice to be regarded up there with the some of the best, but I’m not sure it’s fair to compare eras, I don’t think one could ever do that.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and hopefully there’s still a little bit more that I can achieve.”

Kallis added that he is keen on working with Thunder head coach Paddy Upton once again. Kallis last worked with Upton in the mid-90s.

“He’s more a modern day type of coach with a different way of thinking,” Kallis said. “His way is pretty relaxed. He puts the responsibility on the players, which is good because it makes the players grow and think for themselves and not be spoonfed. I think he’s the way forward for coaching.”
