Chandimal suspended for slow over-rate

Malinga will replace Chandimal as captain for the match against New Zealand

Sri Lanka Twenty20 captain Dinesh Chandimal has been suspended for one match due to maintaining a slow over-rate during the national team’s World Twenty20 match against England.

As a result of this, Chandimal will miss Sri Lanka’s match against New Zealand and be fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while the rest of the team will be docked 10 per cent each.

Chandimal pleaded not guilty to the charge, but it was upheld during a hearing on Friday.

This is the second time Chandimal has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate, with the first coming against New Zealand on November 21 in Pallekele.

Chandimal for fined 20 per cent of his match fee for that incident.

Sri Lanka team manager Michael de Zoysa revealed that Lasith Malinga will take over as captain for the match against New Zealand.
