“More than anything we’ve got the most balanced side”

Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has announced that he is confident the baggy greens can win the upcoming World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

Australia have never won the World Twenty20, but came extremely close to doing so in 2010 when they lost to arch-rivals England in the final.

“More than anything we’ve got the most balanced side that I’ve ever been involved with,” Watson said. “We really do have firepower consistently all the way down our batting order till No. 10 even, and bowling-wise we’ve got options from high-quality opening bowlers to high-quality death bowlers, high-quality spinners.”

Watson also noted that he saw no reason why Australia shouldn’t be able to adapt to the spin-friendly conditions.

“I think the versatility of this squad (is) more than any other squad that I’ve played Twenty20 cricket with for Australia,” he said. “Certainly in all conditions against any opposition we can match up really well, I think it gives us more of a chance to be able win it.”

Watson, who was named Man of the Series during the 2012 World Twenty20, added that Australia possess a large number of match-winners in their side.

“Twenty20 cricket certainly is fickle but if you have got a lot of match-winners in your team, you have got more chance of it being someone’s day, we’ve certainly got that in our squad for sure,” he said.
