“No such discussions [with Flower] have taken place”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Sanjay Patel has dismissed reports that the board has been in contact with former England team director Andy Flower about becoming India’s new head coach.

“That’s rubbish,” Patel told PTI. “I am the secretary of the Board and no such discussions [with Flower] have taken place.”

The rumours started after an Indian newspaper quoted a highly-placed source in the BCCI saying that the board had spoken to Flower about replacing Duncan Fletcher as head coach.

“Nothing has been finalised as these are preliminary talks with the Board likely to invite applications from suitable candidates for the post next month,” the source allegedly said. “Routine process would be followed before handing the responsibilities to the new coach. But so far, Flower has been contacted and let’s see who wins the race.”

Meanwhile, Patel revealed that the BCCI are going to meet with India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Fletcher after the World Twenty20 to talk about the team’s poor run of form as of late.

“Yes, we will be talking to them,” Patel said. “This is a normal procedure that we adopt after every tour. In all probability that would happen only after the T20 World Cup.”
