Henriques walloped seven boundaries during his knock of 55

The Sydney Sixers skirted past the Melbourne Renegades by two runs at the Docklands Stadium to sneak into the semi-finals of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Moises Henriques was the Sixers’ stand-out performer as he scored a magnificent half-century to knock the Renegades out of the tournament.

Renegades captain Ben Rohrer won the toss and elected to bowl first.

His decision to do so paid off as Nic Maddinson was stumped by Peter Nevill off the bowling of Aaron O’Brien for just three runs.

England import Michael Lumb managed to make 18 runs before he was caught by Rohrer off the bowling of Nathan Rimmington.

Sixers captain Steven Smith made a quickfire 25 before he was caught and bowled by O’Brien.

Despite wickets falling around him at regular intervals, Henriques kept his composure and brought up his half-century before he was stumped by Nevill off the bowling of Muttiah Muralitharan.

Henriques’ superb knock of 55 came off 39 balls and included seven boundaries and a six.

The Sixers ended up finishing on 151/6 off their 20 overs thanks to Marcus North’s unbeaten 30 off 21 deliveries, which included two boundaries and a six.

O’Brien and Rimmington were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets apiece, while Dwayne Bravo and Muralitharan chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 152 to win, the Renegades got off to a poor start as opening batsman Daniel Harris was run out for 20.

Michael Hill managed to score 35 runs off 31 balls, which included one boundary and two sixes, before he was caught by Maddinson at long-on off the bowling of Henriques.

Alex Doolan failed to have much of an impact with the bat as he only scored 19 runs before he was run out.

Bravo stabilised the innings when he smashed 38 off 30 balls, which included one boundary and two sixes, before he was caught by Nathan Lyon off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood.

Solomon Mire only made one run before he became the third batsman to be run out.

Needing 17 runs off the last over, Brett Lee proved to be the hero for the Sixers as he kept things under control and did not give in to the pressure.

The Renegades ended up coming just two agonising runs short of their target, despite Rohrer smashing a huge six off the last ball of the match.

Hazlewood and Henriques picked up one wicket apiece.
