The West Indies will begin their title defence against India on March 23 in Mirpur

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced that Cox’s Bazar will be removed from the World Twenty20 venue list as it has not been fully developed yet.

However, the ICC revealed that the stadium in Sylhet will remain on the list, despite work on the pavilion and press box still ongoing.

According to the ICC, Sylhet will host all the first-round fixtures of the women’s tournament and a few group matches of the men’s tournament as well.

All six knockout matches will be played in Mirpur.

Campbell Jamieson, who is the ICC’s general manager of commercial affairs, stated that he was confident Bangladesh “will once again produce a world-class tournament”.

“Bangladesh hosted the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998 [then known as the ICC KnockOut] and most recently the World Cup 2011, along with India and Sri Lanka,” Jamieson said. “Following the legacies of these two successful events, as well as the U-19 World Cup 2004, I’m confident that Bangladesh will once again produce a world-class tournament.”
