Pakistan’s four-year drought could end if Sri Lanka tour the warn-torn nation

Sri Lanka’s President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has announced that the national team are willing to tour Pakistan, four years after they were ambushed by militants in the Pakistani city of Lahore, which resulted in the deaths of eight locals and six players getting injured.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), President Rajapaksa told Pakistan minister Ahsan Iqbal that his side were ready to end the four-year drought Pakistan has suffered since that fateful day in March 2009.

Iqbal stated that the series could strengthen ties between the two nations and unite the people of South Asia.

Defending his decision to allow the Sri Lanka team to travel to Pakistan, Rajapaksa noted that relations with Pakistan “have stood the test of time”.
