Cotterrell’s four-wicket haul left Barbados in absolute tatters

The Antigua Hawksbills walked away with a comfortable five-wicket win over the Barbados Tridents thanks to left-arm pace bowler Sheldon Cotterrell’s four-wicket haul.

Barbados captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, that decision backfired almost immediately as Cotterrell ripped through Barbados’ top order, leaving them struggling at 39/5.

A 38-run partnership between Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal and Raymon Reifer helped somewhat stem the bleeding until Akmal was clean bowled by West Indies seamer Kemar Roach for 15 off 18 balls, which included two boundaries.

Reifer followed soon after as he was cleaned up by all-rounder Marlon Samuels for 30 off 42 deliveries, which included one boundary and a six.

With all the early damage caused by Cotterrell, the Tridents only managed to score 97 runs off their 20 overs.

Cotterrell was easily the pick of Antigua’s bowlers with four wickets, while Roach and Samuels snapped up two wickets apiece and Rahkeem Cornwall chipped in with one wicket as well.

Chasing a simple target of 98 to win, the Hawksbills found themselves in trouble early into their innings as three of their top batsmen were back in the pavilion with only 46 runs on the board.

Orlando Peters’ 31 off 22 balls, which included two boundaries and three sixes helped steady the ship and steer Antigua in the right direction.

Samuels remained undefeated on 18 off 28 deliveries, which included two boundaries, as the Hawksbills reached their target with relative ease.

Shakib Al Hasan, Ashley Nurse, Shoaib Malik and Shannon Gabriel all picked up one wicket apiece.
