Hafeez is the only Pakistani player to have scored 1,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket

Pakistan Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez has become the fourth international player to sign up for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after Australia’s Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor.

Hafeez, who is currently second on the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Twenty20 all-rounders rankings, has represented Pakistan in 43 Twenty20 Internationals and captained them in 14.

During the recent limited overs series against South Africa, Hafeez became the first Pakistani batsman to reach the milestone of 1,000 Twenty20 International runs.

“The 2010 World T20 allowed me the experience playing T20 in the Caribbean and I am looking forward to playing there once again,” Hafeez said. “The people in the West Indies love their cricket and I am sure the fans will get behind their teams. I also hope that cricket fans back in Pakistan and around the world will follow me during this first CPL season.”

The CPL is scheduled to run between July 29 and August 26 and feature six Caribbean franchise nations, which are Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

Each nation will be given a local iconic player and an international superstar as well, but as of right now, neither Hafeez, Ponting, Gilchrist or Taylor have been assigned to any of the franchises.
