A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Former Australia keeper Luke Ronchi looking to join New Zealand team

Ronchi believes his chances of making the New Zealand team are high

Former Australia wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi has abandoned his plans to try and get back on the national team and instead has gone to New Zealand, where he is on the verge of becoming eligible to play for the Black Caps.

Ronchi moved back to New Zealand last year and snapped up the opportunity to be Wellington’s wicketkeeper after the club announced that they were in desperate need of one.

Ronchi could make his New Zealand debut as early as this month, when England tour the country.

While Ronchi admitted that his primary focus was to impress the national selectors with his performances in the domestic competition, he stated that it would be nice to play at the international level once again.

Dannevirke-born Ronchi moved to Western Australia with the rest of his family when he was only seven.

The wicketkeeper made his debut for Australia in 2008 after veteran Brad Haddin broke his finger, and ended up playing a total of four ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals before being sidelined.

Ronchi revealed that he had moved back to New Zealand since he believed that he had a better chance of getting into the national team there than in Australia, where competition has become fierce as of late.
