A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: ‘Added responsibility’ helped my batting during India series, admits Alastair Cook

Cook noted that this was by far his best series with the bat

England captain Alastair Cook has admitted that the “added responsibility” on his shoulders during the four-Test series against India helped his batting since he felt like he had something to prove.

Cook also noted that he wanted to lead by example during his first Test series as captain and had the urge to end England’s 27-year losing streak in India.

“May be the added responsibility makes you more accountable to the side,” Cook said. “That may have helped my batting…I really don’t know if it happened that way but it’s nice.

“As a captain you always want a good start with the bat… show that you can cope with the demands. That’s how it has happened but I can’t put a finger on how it happened.”

Cook stated that he did not believe in momentum and instead pointed out that teams win consecutive games in a row due to their consistency.

“After the first game it (momentum) was with India but we managed to bounce back,” Cook added. “So, not really (think that momentum helps).”

The England captain was pleased to have picked up a 2-1 series win in India, but mentioned that there were still improvements his team could make while playing on turning pitches.

“It certainly left us a little more confident and belief that what we are doing is fine,” Cook said. “What we are doing on spinning tracks is right. But we need to improve on that, and we’ll need it. We are going to need some stand-up performances.”
