Swann is now looking to take all 20 wickets in a Test match
After passing the legendary Jim Laker for the most number of Test wickets picked up by an England off-spinner, Graeme Swann is now setting his sights on another accomplishment, which is to take all 20 wickets in a Test match.
Laker’s 53-year long record was broken when Swann dismissed India opening batsman Virender Sehwag for 117 during the first Test at Ahmedabad and the England off-spinner is now looking to break Laker’s record of 19 wickets in one Test, which the legend accomplished against Australia at Old Trafford in 1956.
Swann only took one more Test match than Laker to accomplish the feat and he could not hide his delight at going down in England’s history books as their most prolific off-spinner to date.
The Guardian quoted Swann as saying: “It was a very proud moment. I always say I’m not a stats man but I was genuinely excited when I was told I was close to Laker. So I’m very honoured to have gone past him.”
Swann noted that it would mean the world to him if he could be the first England bowler to take all 20 wickets in a Test match.
“If the glass really is half full I could dream of getting all 20,” Swann added.
