Cook believes he can have a great future as England captain with Flower by his side
England Test captain Alastair Cook is looking to make a major impact during his maiden series as captain and believes that he has the ability to do so with the backing of head coach Andy Flower.
Cook noted that he would also like to show his team-mates that he is worthy of being England’s new Test captain after his predecessor Andrew Strauss announced his retirement from international cricket over the summer.
In the first two Tests against India, Cook has already recorded two centuries and with the series deadlocked at 1-1, Cook will be looking to become the first England captain since David Gower to win a Test series in India.
The Daily Express quoted Cook as saying: “You cannot change who you are, the type of bloke you are. And you have to be authentic to yourself. I will be no different to how I have been as the one-day captain.”
Cook stated that he and England were very lucky to be working with a veteran head coach like Flower.
“But I would say I am very lucky to be working with a guy like Andy,” Cook added. “One of his best qualities is he’s very, very strong-willed and knows what he wants. The players are conscious that there are no grey areas.”
“I have the utmost respect for him and it is very important that we do have a good relationship and continue with that. When you have good leaders at the top, with good relationships, we see what the results can be.”
