A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Zimbabwe looking for a new head coach

Butcher’s last assignment as head coach is expected to be Zimbabwe’s tour of the Caribbean

Zimbabwe Cricket have announced that they have already put up an advertisement in hopes to find a new head coach for the national team by April next year.

The board posted the advertisement after deciding not to renew current coach Alan Butcher’s contract.

“ZC wishes to advise that the position of national team coach will become vacant on April 1, 2013 … ZC is therefore inviting applications for the position,” the board said through a statement released to the press.

Butcher became Zimbabwe’s head coach in February 2010, replacing Walter Chawaguta, and while details are still sketchy as of right now, the hopes of finding a new coach by April 2013 would suggest that Butcher’s last assignment with the team will be their tour of the West Indies in March 2013.

The board made November 30 the deadline for all applicants interested in applying for the position.

The board also noted that all applicants must have played first-class cricket and must have at least a Level 3 coaching certificate with five years worth of experience under their belts.

Zimbabwe are also searching for a new head coach to train and develop their Under-19 team after former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Harris resigned in October.

Harris stepped down after the Under-19 World Cup, where Zimbabwe were less than impressive, finishing in 15th place, which was only better than Namibia.
