A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Winning major ICC tournament was way overdue, says Dwayne Bravo

Bravo believes it was truly a team effort that allowed the West Indies to win the World Twenty20

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has revealed that winning a major International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament after such a long time was way overdue.

The last major ICC tournament the West Indies won was the World Cup back in 1979.

CMC quoted Bravo as saying: “We went into the World Cup not under any pressure, they cast us as favourites but we, as players, take it as one game at a time. It’s good to go into a tournament as favourites, but also better to live up to expectations and actually come out on top.”

Bravo was supposed to go straight to South Africa after the ICC World Twenty20 to represent the Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), but had to cancel his plans after sustaining a groin injury.

“We always had that self-belief that we’re going to do well, we have a very good team and once our players click at the right time, there’s no stopping us,” Bravo added.

Bravo noted that the whole team deserved credit for making all of this possible.

“It’s good to see all of us actually in one team, come and put our heads down and actually win a title for the West Indies, it’s long overdue. This format T20 suits most of us and it’s good that we can actually dominate in this format of the game,” Bravo said.
