A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Dav Whatmore advised by physician to take more rest

Whatmore has gone through a stressful period over the past couple of weeks

Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore has been advised to take more rest by a physician after having gone through a very stressful period with the national team.

According to a report in the Daily Jang newspaper, Whatmore’s wife has also been worried about his health and has asked friends and relatives for advice.

“Whatmore has been under a lot of stress and tension in recent weeks over the team’s performance and this has left his wife worried,” the newspaper quoted Whatmore’s wife as saying.

The report added that Whatmore was reluctant about going to a party at a close friend’s home in Colombo.

“But even at the party according to eye witness accounts Whatmore remained aloof and in one corner of the room before a close friend and doctor engaged him in a conversation. He then asked for advice from the skin specialist, Dr Saeed Jaffer who had come from South Africa to watch the World Twenty20 matches. Whatmore rolled up his socks and showed him rashes on his leg and the doctor after examining them told him that these were the result of him taking too much tension and stress,” the report said.

The report further added that Whatmore’s wife had been trying to encourage him to leave the hotel room more often as well.

Whatmore’s health concerns brings back the memories of Bob Woolmer, who was found dead in his hotel room during the 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup in Kingston, Jamaica.

Woolmer’s death had been treated as a homicide at first, but later it was believed that he had died of natural causes.

Woolmer, who coached Pakistan from 2004-2007, had been devastated after they were eliminated in the first round of the World Cup when losing their match against Ireland.
