A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Daniel Vettori highly likely to miss Sri Lanka series

Vettori has been plagued with injuries throughout the year

New Zealand spin bowler Daniel Vettori has revealed that he is highly unlikely to play in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka after he aggravated his Achilles injury during the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.

Vettori will be visiting a specialist to see what action he needs to take in order to recover as soon as possible.

“I think it will be a little bit of a break, I don’t think I’ll make the Sri Lanka tour. It’s a bit of a chronic injury that flared up during the tournament [World T20]. I’m seeing the specialist tomorrow. I’ll have more of an idea about it then,” Vettori said.

Vettori did not play in New Zealand’s Super Over loss to the West Indies during the World Twenty20, and even missed the entire two-Test series against India before the tournament due to a groin injury.

Sri Lanka and New Zealand are scheduled to play two Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20 International starting from October 30.

However, Vettori stated that he expected to return in time for New Zealand’s tour to South Africa, which starts with a Twenty20 International on December 21 at Durban.

Vettori also hoped that his body will allow him to continue playing cricket at least until the 2015 ICC World Cup, which will be hosted by both New Zealand and Australia.
