A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Chris Martin still an important member of the New Zealand squad, says Ross Taylor

Taylor believes Martin can still be a huge asset for New Zealand

New Zealand captain Ross Taylor has revealed that veteran pace bowler Chris Martin, who has been the leading the bowling attack for nearly a decade, is still an important member of the squad despite a number of younger bowlers starting to become the centre of attention.

New Zealand have been experiencing a poor run in Test cricket, and their luck hasn’t got any better since they recently lost 2-0 to India.

Despite being beaten by an innings and 115 runs in the first Test at Hyderabad, the Black Caps produced a better performance during the second Test at Bangalore, losing by five wickets.

Martin was left out of the second Test match, and the young pace trio of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Doug Bracewell put on a strong performance throughout the match in his absence.

However, even though Taylor is excited for the future of New Zealand cricket, he stated that the younger bowlers should still be taking full advantage of Martin’s knowledge and experience since he has played the game for a long time.

Stuff.nz.com quoted Taylor, as saying: “With young fast bowlers, they need someone to learn off. There are going to be times in the next few months when Chris will play and there will be times when he might not play at all, he’s obviously a very experienced person and he’s willing to give his time. He knows where he stands in the team, he’s still got a part to play.”
