A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Yuvraj Singh aiming to make return at ICC T20 World Cup

Singh is training extra hard to keep his hopes up of returning by the ICC Twenty20 World Cup

Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh has announced that he may participate in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 World Cup in September if he fully recovers from the chemotherapy treatment he needed to get rid of his lung cancer.

Singh, who is currently 30, has not played any international cricket since November last year when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

The 30-year-old underwent treatment in the United States before coming home to India in April to complete his rehabilitation.

Speaking exclusively on the ICC’s magazine show, ICC Cricket 360°, Singh noted that he really hoped to be part of the India squad for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

“Hopefully I should be back by then, I don’t want to rush and I don’t want to come back at 75 percent. I might take six months, I might take two months. So I don’t know. But the day I feel 100 percent I surely will be back,” he said.

Singh, was the Player of the Tournament in last year’s 50-over World Cup, where India became the first team to win the tournament on home soil.

Singh, has also played a huge part in the revolution of Twenty20 cricket, especially when he smashed six sixes in a row off the bowling of England’s Stuart Broad during the first ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2007.

The fans in India have all been eagerly waiting for the return of Yuvraj Singh, but the 30-year-old batsman told them not to have such high expectations.

“Playing for India is going to be a huge challenge for me because the body has been under a lot of shock which nobody can understand except me, only a cancer patient can understand what he is going through. So it’s going to be a big challenge for me to come back and play for India again,” Singh said.

Up till now Singh has represented India in 37 Tests, scoring 1775 runs at an average of 34.80, and 274 ODIs, where he has registered 8051 runs at an average of 37.62, and has even played 23 Twenty20 Internationals for his country, scoring 567 runs at an average of 31.50.
