Clarke believes Australia still have a lot of talent within the country’s domestic leagues

Australian captain Michael Clarke has rubbished all rumours about the falling number of batsmen the nation seem to have, and also mentioned that the team are in a good position for their upcoming tours against England and Pakistan, before South Africa and Sri Lanka travel down under to face the team on home soil.

In the upcoming intense 15 month period, Australia will also face India, while playing in back-to-back Ashes series.

The Sydney Morning Herald, quoted Clarke as saying: “I think we’re in a good place, but I think this summer is going to be a real test for us.”

Clarke, also noted that there is plenty of depth in the Australian domestic leagues, and many of the players are nearing their chance to represent Australia on the international stage.

“I think there is good depth. I’ve always said you need to have a good mix of youth and experience in a successful team, and I think we’ve got that at the moment,” he said.

Clarke, also mentioned that Australia had a variety of players to choose from due to their domestic leagues.

“I think the strength of Australian cricket has always been the first-class system, so hopefully all of us go back and go play state cricket this summer before the Test matches start,” he added.

“Hopefully the batters can put a lot of runs on the board and put pressure on the current top six in the Australian team. That’s what we need,” he further said.
