Yousuf has been training extremely hard in the recent months to keep his comeback hopes alive

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has announced that he has no plans of giving up his chance of making a comeback in the nation’s Test squad.

Yousuf, who went through a fitness test, was expecting to earn a spot on the roster for the Sri Lanka tour, but was disappointed to find out that he had not made the cut.

The Daily Times, quoted Yousuf as saying: “I was expecting a recall at least for the Sri Lanka Tests, but it has not come. I want to complete the milestone of playing 100 Tests. There are so many players still active on the international circuit who have played 100 Tests. I have just played 90. I am not disappointed nor have I given up.”

Yousuf, who is currently 37, has scored 7530 runs in his Test career, at an outstanding average of 52, but has not represented Pakistan since November 2010, when they played South Africa in the UAE.

The national selectors have suggested that Yousuf should regain his form by playing more domestic cricket, while also getting fitter, in order for them to consider adding him into the team.

Yousuf was very disappointed that he did not receive the green light for the Sri Lanka tour, especially since he had been training in the nets and on his overall fitness with coach Dav Whatmore.

“My fitness is good for Test cricket and I have been working very hard on it. My ambition for the sport is still there and that is very important,” he said.
