Simmons has not played for the West Indies since December last year

West Indies batsman, Lendl Simmons has announced that he is planning to make his international comeback by playing in the ODI series against England next month.

Simmons, who underwent surgery to repair a fractured finger in February, returned to the domestic leagues last month and believes he has proven that he is fit once again.

Just last week, Simmons made a brilliant 127 for his local club Ceramic Merryboys, and he is hoping to continue his good run of form to convince selectors that he is worthy of a spot on the ODI roster.

Speaking exclusively to the Trinidad NewsDay, Simmons said: “I see no reason to be left out the English series. I’m making some big scores once again and I think I have done a lot to deserve selection, I just want to keep playing to the best of my ability and move from strength to strength. As a cricketer, I want to do my best representing my club, country and the region.”

During his international career, Simmons has represented the West Indies in eight Tests and 36 ODIs, but has not played since December last year, when the national team were facing India in an ODI series.

Simmons, according to many analysts, has emerged as one of the most consistent batsmen for the West Indies, scoring a century and two half centuries in his last seven ODI innings.

The West Indies will first play three Test matches against England, the first of which will begin on May 17 at Lord’s, before three ODIs and one Twenty20 International will be played from June 16 to 24.

“I feel great. It’s good to be fit and back to form once again. I was elated with my 127 against Wanderers recently because I want runs under my belt to make the One-Dayers and T20s in England,” Simmons said.

The West Indies are likely to have a full team for the tour, with Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo all up for selection as well.
