Sammy is optimistic about having a full team in time for the first Test

The West Indies are currently facing a selection crisis for their upcoming first Test against England, after a few of their players have been hot with fitness, travel and visa problems.

The team could only amass 11 fit players to participate in the washed out warm up match against Sussex on Saturday.

The West Indies are still waiting for Narsingh Deonarine and Assad Fudadin to get visa clearances, while Marlon Samuels will be coming to England straight from India, where he is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On the other hand, pace bowler Fidel Edwards is still doubtful to play for the first Test since he is recovering from a back injury.

Edwards, who is currently 30, was also unavailable to play in the third Test against Australia last week.

West Indies captain, Darren Sammy said: “We have 12 guys here right now, and I think the other three are coming in later this evening.”

“It’s a little bit to do with visas. They’re going to be here, and they’re not missing anything right now. We’ve not named our XI. They’re batsmen, so they could come in and play straight away,” he added.

The West Indies match against Sussex was called off after heavy rain forced the players to leave the field.

The tourists will play also play the England Lions in Northampton before taking on England in the first Test at Lord’s on May 17.
