A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Clarke and de Villiers share top Test player spot

Clarke and de Villiers are joint first on the ICC Test player rankings

Australian Captain, Michael Clarke, is joined by South African batsman, AB de Villiers, as the pair share the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test player rankings.

Both players have 821 points, while another South African batsman, Jacques Kallis, trails them by only two points, with 819.

Both Clarke and de Villiers, have had a successful summer, scoring plenty of runs, giving them the boost in the rankings.

The pair, took over former number one player, Kumar Sangakkara, after his dismal performances with the bat, scoring only zero and 14 runs in his team’s 75 run victory over England in the first Test at Galle.

The South Africans, are currently on a break, after beating New Zealand 1-0 in their Test series, while Clarke and the Australians, are gearing up for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.

Clarke, has been on top of the list before, when he scored 93 against England at Headingley.

But, with Clarke’s outstanding performances against India in December 2011, where he made a magical 329 not out at Sydney, there was no debate over him retaining the number one spot.

Clarke, also believes that Australia, have had an unbelievably successful year, and hopes their dominant streak can continue.

The Sydney Morning Herald, quoted Clarke as saying: “It’s been a great 12 months. We’ve obviously played some outstanding cricket, and there have been some patches in the past 12 months where we haven’t been as consistent as we would like, overall we’ve grown as a team, I think we’ve come a long way.”

Clarke, will be hoping to continue his blistering form, and that Australia can edge closer to retaining their number one spot in the Test team rankings, when the three-match Test series against the West Indies begins next week.
