A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: West Indian opener Kieran Powell dropped from ODI squad

Barath last represented the West Indies in December 2011

The West Indies have replaced out-of-form opener Kieran Powell with Adrian Barath for the two remaining ODIs.

Powell, who opened against Australia, in all three of the ODIs, has made scores of just eight, zero and twelve, much to the disappointment of the selection committee and Captain Darren Sammy.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), released a statement about the inclusion of Barath into the squad, which said: “Barath has overcome his recent spell of injuries and gave firm evidence of his fitness with a hundred for his native Trinidad & Tobago against Guyana.”

Barath, also has more experience in ODIs than Powell, having represented the West Indies in 12 throughout his career.

The West Indies hope that Barath, who is renowned across the country for his big hitting abilities, will provide a fresh spark of hope and life at the top of the batting lineup.

Since his debut two years ago, Barath has proven to be able to handle the pressure of the Australian bowling attack, when he made his only test hundred against them at Brisbane in 2009.

The West Indies are hoping Barath can produce some spectacular performances at the top of the order, as they hope to take the lead in the series, which is currently tied at 1-1, when the two nations clash on the 23rd of March at St Lucia.
